Neuere Erkenntnisse zur Domestikation südamerikanischer Kameliden und deren Nutzung aus globaler und nationaler Sicht

Abstract

Alpakas und Lamas sind beliebte Haustierformen aus der Gruppe der Neuweltkameliden.

Ihr ursprüngliches Verbreitungsgebiet ist Südamerika. Inzwischen werden sie jedoch auch in Australien, Nordamerika und Europa gezüchtet.

 Neuweltkameliden sind vorzügliche Rohfaserverzehrer. Sie haben einen mehrhöhligen Magen und käuen - ähnlich wie die echten Wiederkäuer (Ruminantia) - wieder.

Auch in Deutschland steigt die Zahl der domestizierten Neuweltkameliden auf landwirtschaftlichen Betrieben bzw. in der Hobbytierhaltung kontinuierlich an.

Da die Haltung südamerikanischer Kameliden in Deutschland somit immer beliebter wird, sollte die Behandlung dieser Tiere in der Tierarztpraxis zukünftig eine immer wichtigere Rolle spielen.

Die Pflege der Tiere beinhaltet die tägliche Kontrolle des Wohlbefindens (Futteraufnahme, Wasseraufnahme, Kotbeschaffenheit, Verhalten, Verletzungen etc.) sowie die regelmäßige Reinigung des Stalles bzw. des Paddocks.

Der Einsatz von Neuweltkameliden im Bereich “Nutzung von Tieren im sozialen Einsatz“ ist eine gewerbsmäßige Haltung im Sinne des § 11 Tierschutzgesetz. Die Ausbildung und die Nutzung von Neuweltkameliden im sozialen Einsatz dürfen nicht mit Schmerzen, Leiden oder Schäden für die Tiere verbunden sein. Ein Nachweis der Sachkunde (mit Sachkundeprüfung) muss deshalb auch hier erbracht werden

Recent insights in the domestication of South American camelids and their using from a global and national perspective

Alpacas and llamas are popular pet species from the New World camelid group.

Their country of origin is South America. However, they are now also bred in Australia, North America and Europe.

 New World camelids are excellent raw fiber eaters. They have a multi-cavity stomach and chew the cud; similar to the real ruminants (Ruminantia).

In Germany, too, the number of domesticated New World camelids on farms or in hobby keeping is continuously increasing.

Since the keeping of South American camelids is becoming more and more popular in Germany, the treatment of these animals in veterinary practice should play an increasingly important role in the future.

The care of the animals includes daily checks of their well-being (feed intake, water intake, quality of faeces, behavior, injuries, etc.) as well as regular cleaning of the stall or paddock.

The use of New World camelids in the field of "use of animals in social work" is commercial keeping within the meaning of Section 11 of the Animal Welfare Act. The training and using of New World camelids in social work must not be associated with pain, suffering or harm to the animals. Proof of expertise (with an examination of expertise) must therefore also be provided here
